That normally crazy horse stood there patiently and her little girl clung tightly to her neck and cried her eyes out and whispered in her ear. Stories like this are common all around the globe. And for me that was my story too. As Winston Churchill said, "There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of man," and I'd have to agree with him! Growing up with horses taught me what a powerful tool they can be in healing from so many different kinds of wounds. Seeing this gave me a passion to use horses to help other people heal, especially soldiers with PTSD and their families. My dream became to run a ranch where I could have horses and just let God reveal Himself to people through His creation of the horse and heal the wounds in the depths of their souls. Out of high school I went through a certification program learning to use horses for therapy for people.
I always assumed though that this ranch was a far off distant dream that might never come true. Certainly not anytime soon. But as God seems to enjoy doing, He turned my world completely upside down and showed me just how big He is. Earlier this year I was helping run a therapy stables in Chiang Mai Thailand when I fell off of one of their horses and broke my back. It cut my trip short by 3 months and sent me grudgingly back to Kansas. It was just a compression fracture and so healed within 3 months. Not too long after being home though I received a phone call from a family who had found a place they were interested in buying and turning into a horse therapy ranch. The thing was they needed someone who would live on the place and run it. If I had come home when planned this opportunity would have not happened. Realizing all of this really made for a "WOW GOD!!!!" moment. Talk about God working together all things for good!! I just need to become less stubborn so it doesn't take major injuries to move me around ;) God also brought along a partner for me because I'm so completely clueless about the business and paper work and all that. Without Kim I'd have been sooo completely lost. She also has had a passion for years to use horses to help people. Isn't God just the best?
Freedom Farms is now up and running. We offer horse training, riding lessons and most importantly therapy! Our therapy program is called H.O.R.S.E.. It is a non profit that was donated to us from a farm I volunteered at several years ago. Once again, God provided.
So I'm starting this blog as a way to keep people informed on what's all going on out at Freedom Farm and just what God's doing both at the farm and in my life as He's walking me through this new time in life. I'll try to get some pictures us soon and start introducing all of our wonderful horses! Freel free to contact me any time if you have any questions about the farm or anything we offer or if you'd like to volunteer or donate to it! Caity 913-302-1157 cowgirl4christ17@yahoo.com
